We’ve all seen them around. The “client speak translators.” The Tumblr posts full of animated Mad Men gifs lamenting clients and their sometimes nonsensical requests. It’s easy to make fun of some of the things clients say. But as marketing professionals, part of our job is listening to clients, even when they can’t quite articulate what they want.
Let’s flip the script. After all, we’re supposed to be the communication experts. So why do ad agencies and web devs seem to have an impenetrable dialect all our own? When clients don’t make sense, it’s because they’re talking about things outside their area of expertise. What’s our excuse?
